Newsletter - October 21

Sorry for the delay in getting this issue of the newsletter out but we have been really busy with the season starting and other things going on behind the scenes.

Great to be back

Firstly football has been welcomed back to Ferryside lane, the season is going well for all teams with either good results or progressively better performances. Our new u7’s are flying and off to a great start with some brilliant team performances and getting some really good wins under coach Scott.

The new Under 9 team is generating so much interest we now have enough to start a second team at Christmas. Credit for this is down to coach Stephen and the children for creating a safe inclusive atmosphere that other children and parents are looking at and thinking I need my child to be a part of that and we are getting a steady stream of emails enquiring on how they can become a part of the SAJFC family!

5 a side success

On the 25th September, we held a friendly 5 a side tournament for the new u9’s and invited our friends at Kirkby Storm, Churchtown jaguars, Southport Trinity and Southport Hesketh to come and help raise some money for the Sefton Afghan Appeal that is helping families affected by the war in Afghanistan settle in Sefton. Thanks to our main sponsors Biograd, Edgars Famly Fuit and Churchtown Chimney Sweep and generous donations on the day including a one from Formby Juniors who couldn’t make it we raised £747.14p! Football was a winner on the day too as all the games were really competitive and both semi finals were decided by penalty shootouts. The final was contested by two Southport Athletic sides in a really keenly contested game. The orange team came out on top and lifted the Biograd trophy. Thanks to all the volunteers on the day and Scott from the u7’s and Martin from the u8’s for reffing the games. Thanks to Green Sefton who let us use the pitches and Liverpool County FA for sanctioning the tournament.

Everyone who took part really enjoyed the day. The winning team have very kindly been invited to Southport Town Hall on Tuesday 19th October to meet the Mayor who will present the trophy to the them, the boys are really excited as it’s a huge honour to be invited to meet the Mayor of Sefton!

Metal box

You may of noticed we have now purchased the storage container for Ferryside lane. This will house all our matchday equipment and a really good asset for the club as we now have 24 hour access to our equipment. As part of the planning consent we need to paint it green so if you have any free time to help please contact your coach.

Speedy recovery

A bit of sad news now, Joe from our under 17’s sadly dislocated his knee in the first game of the season and everyone at the club wishes you a speedy recovery mate.

162 what?!

Matthew our U12 coach is raising money for the club and is only 13% from hitting the £4,000 target. He is going to cycle 1km for every kid registered with the club, which is a mammoth 162km in one go.

For the final push to hit the target Matthew is also giving everyone who donates a chance to win a pair of Brand-New Adidas Predator freak football boots worth £85. So please please donate the £2, it’s the minimum just giving allows. If you donate more, you get more chances to win. The winner chooses the size too.

Add your name for who you want to win the boots in the Just giving message.

Thank you. Good luck to you and good luck Matthew.

Save the date

Date for your diary – Friday 17th December we are having a Christmas party at Southport Rugby club. Parent helpers will be required on the day to ensure it all goes smoothly. There is a visit from Father Christmas so everyone will need to be on their best behaviour! Again if you can help please let us know.
