Newsletter - January 2022

Welcome to the January edition of the SAJFC newsletter

January starts with the resumption of the League fixtures, u12-u17 started the weekend of 8/9 but only the under 17's managed to get a game as the wet weather played havoc with the fixture list.

The under 7 to u10's get going on the 23rd of January and our two new teams get to play their first competitive games. First up is the under 7 blacks coached by the reds manager Scott and ran on the match days by Jay. Next up is the under 9 blacks coached by Chris. We hope you enjoy your first games and we welcome you to the Southport Athletic family.

We have purchased some new metal foldable goals to replace the old tired plastic ones we have been making do with. All age groups based at Ferryside lane now have them and they are a great investment as they look great and save the volunteers’ lots of time setting up the pitches.

Matthew completed his epic sponsored 162km bike ride raising an amazing £4558 for the club! Everyone is grateful and proud of Matthews efforts as fundraising is vital to the continued success of our club.

Alan and Paul had a meeting with Sefton council with a view to making Ferryside lane feel more of a home ground for us. At some point soon you will see some SAJFC signs up and around the place. We welcome the chance to work with Sefton Council to improve Ferryside so we can keep enjoying our football there.

The Christmas party was a great success despite having to split the numbers due to COVID regulations, we followed the rules despite the government not being able to follow their own rules! Highlights included a visit from Santa and mini Santa and chairman Alans attempts at the macarena. Everyone seemed to have a good time thanks to the DJ, raffle, Alans party games and Southport Rugby club for putting on a great party.

Speaking of parties, save the date for our annual end of season awards presentation and celebration. Again it will be held at Southport Rugby club on Saturday 18th June. The usual club awards of players, managers and parents players of the year are up for grabs. There will be entertainment, food to purchase from the rugby club, raffle prizes and possibly karaoke after the success of it at the Christmas party.

The last item is we have called a committee meeting on the 1st February 7 pm at the Richmond pub to keep everyone up to date on club matters. If anyone would like to attend or add items for discussion please contact southportathleticjfc@gmail.com
